The scarlet flowers emerge before the foliage in the spring.
The emerging young foliage is also red and matures into glossy, green foliage which covers the 3' high plant.

The fruit is yellow-green fruit and edible when cooked. It may be left on the plant to feed wildlife.
The Texas Flowering Quince does best in full to part sun and is adaptable to both dry and moist sites. This plant can thrive in urban environments!
