Description
Dicentra, better known as the bleeding heart, comes from the kentron (spur) and the Greek dis (twice), which stands for the two hooks on each bloom. The bleeding heart stands for sympathy, especially toward liberal causes. This flower is a perennial herbaceous plant, belonging to the fumitory family, and there are 8 different species of dicentra. This flower is native to North America and eastern Asia, and it is also the official funeral flower of Tibet. This flower is also known as lady's eardrops, the heart of Jesus, the heart of Mary, lady in a boat (or bath), lady's locket and lyre flower. Lamprocapnos spectabilis, formerly known as dicentra spectabilis, is most striking and is native to China, Japan, Siberia, Korea and eastern Asia. Spectablis means spectacular and was introduced to England in 1816. In 1846, Scottish botanist, Robert Fortune, reintroduced this species of the bleeding heart to Europe, after its first introduction disappeared from cultivation. The species of dicentra are: dicentra canadensis (squirrel corn), Dutchman's breeches (dicentra culcullaria), turkey corn (dicentra eximia), Pacific bleeding-heart (dicentra formosa), few-flowered bleeding-heart (dicentra pauciflora), komakusa (dicentra peregrina), and steer's head (dicentra uniflora).

You photographed some amazing bleeding heart beauties here Pamela. I also really like how you composed the shot. I like the idea of having the hearts all the way across the frame... very nice. :-) fv
